My mother gave birth to me on a Wednesday some years ago and my father is Appau-Nkansah so I became Kwaku Appau-Nkansah.

My father was born and raised in a strong Presbyterian home and my mother was a Pentecostal. So you see, I am from a Christian home. My parents were introduced to the “Mormon” missionaries by a family who were neighbors, and soon after became members of the church.

I grew up in a Mormon home by all standards where I learnt the first two articles of faith as a child. The first being; “We believe in God the eternal Father and in His Son Jesus Christ and in the Holy Ghost”, and the second, “We believe that men will be punished for their own sins and not for Adam’s transgressions”. As much as a lot of people don’t like Mondays, it was one of my favorite days as a child because on Mondays we had (and still do have) Family Home Evenings. This is a time where we sit as a family to learn a gospel principle or two, discuss family issues and then have fun activities. The best part of it was the “item 13” that seals the night. I always loved it.

So just like any home in Ghana and in the world, my home had standards, “Mormon Standards”, and I was raised by these standards. I must stay chaste, I can’t smoke nor drink alcoholic beverages or any harmful drinks and I must be honest, they did a great job in shaping me as a human, trust me. I have friends who think mangoes are the best fruits you can have in your life. I also have friends who believe Jesus Christ was born in the Volta Region. (They put Ghana on the map).
I don’t think I stand alone when I say that I don’t have favorites of anything. I like a bit of everything because I think everything is unique, including people. The only thing I have been consistent in liking is “short” players in NBA. I think I follow them a lot because I am not a 6.3” guy with strong muscles but I love basketball. I can vibe with the likes of Nate Robinson and Isaiah Thomas – those guys are just great. I support any team they play with and I don’t care if you think I am not loyal. I don’t like LeBron James so much because the dude is too good (like CR7). Steph Curry is so annoying because he can find the rim from any part of the court- I can’t vibe with him.
I love all reasonable sports though I don’t know how to participate in most of them. This is not to boast, only to set the records straight, I led my team to win several leagues and tournaments; basketball, football, rugby, 4x400m race and many more (all of these in my dreams). The only times these are real are in video games- Don’t try me there.
“For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart, yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads” (Doctrine and Covenants 25:12). If words fail, music speaks they say.

Music is one aspect of my life that I can’t do away with. It is real magic and it can do great things. I sing in and outside of the church. I am a lover of music and I think Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran did great in the “Perfect” duet but maybe Adele would have been an outstanding match for the work.
After all have been said and done, love is the only thing that sums it all up. I love and I am loved. I cherish it so much when I read the words of our Father in heaven in The Pearl of Great Price which says “For behold this is my work and my glory to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man”. It teaches me to love if I want to help in His work. This is why I love being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and I am just like you.
