I am so excited for so many different things. I know it’s going to be a good year for too many different reasons. The most convincing reason is that ALL members of the Church of  Jesus CHRIST of Latter Day Saints will be studying the Book of Mormon througout the year with the “Come, Follow Me” manual. I think it’s amazing because this clearly means that miracles will be happeneing in the lives of individuals all over the world. Hearts will be changed, testimonies strengthened, and the Spirit of the LORD poured out more abundantly on families and their relationships will grow ever more gloriously as we prayerfully read the Book of Mormon this year.

I’m reading the Book of Mormon for the third time in French and I am on the 27th chapter of the Book of Mosiah. However, following a strange impression I received, I’ve started a very special study of the Book in English. And I do those studies in the evenings before I go to bed. And with my evening studies of the Book I’m on the 4th chapter of the first book of Nephi. YES, I’m “weird” personnified!

I’m currently working in the Gombe ward and our meeting house is right next to the Kinshasa Temple! How cool is that! I find it wonderful the blessing I have to see the Temple every single day, and to remember the importance and far reaching effects of covenants, eternal ones of course! The Temple really is the house of the LORD and in it we find such peace and tranquility we get nowhere else in the world! The LORD literally receives us when we make sacred covenants with Him. I find it interesting the words of Nephi describing how he and his brothers felt after Zoram, Laban’s servant, had promised that he would go down into the wilderness with them. In 1 Nephi 4:37 he said, ” and it came to pass that when Zoram had made an oath unto us, our fears did cease concerning him”. I know that when we make covenants with our Lord we demonstrate our willingness to become His true disciples and through our obedience to those covenants, His “fears” concerning us cease, and He does count us part of His fold. We become heirs to His kingdom and He takes us by the hand to lead us safely back home to the Father.

I’m happy to be counted worthy to lead His children back to Him by preparing them to make their first covenant with Him by baptism.

It is such a great responsibility which costs many sacrifices emotionally, physically, and spiritually. But the promise is sure and the joy it brings is totally worth the hustle!

President Thomas Spencer Monson put it this way, “at best, missionary work neccessitates drastic adjustments to one’s pattern of living. No other labor requires longer hours or greater devotion, nor such sacrifice and fervent prayer. As a result, dedicated missionary service returns a dividend of eternal joy that extends throughout life and into eternity”. You know, it hasn’t been easy and it surely won’t get any easier for the rest of the months I have to endure here. A lot more adjustments and adaptations will come knocking right at me and I’ll have to find my own joy daily. But I know the LORD is smiling down at me and His angels are round about me to bear me up.

Thank you all for your prayers and support. I LOVE YOU!

With joy,

Soeur OTOO.
