Hi guys,

It’s amazing how fast the year has run. It’s the last month of the year and the season in which one could have so much to be grateful for.

Obe and I have witnessed so many miracles in our lives from the moment we got sealed for time and all eternity in the Lord’s holy Temple here in Accra.

The kindness of our family and dear friends towards us and our new home has been overwhelming. We see the hand of God in the blessings we enjoy and stay ever grateful to Him for the angels He has strategically placed in our paths to bear us up.

This year, I was blessed to listen to the living Prophet, President Nelson, deliver a message on my birthday. I was so excited to hear of the announcement that was made days ahead of this special broadcast and knew instantly that this too was happening by divine design and was not just by chance or luck. Amongst other directives, the Prophet extended an invitation unto all to express gratitude for the many blessings we have in our lives. He invited us to turn our social media pages into Gratitude journals and post things we’re grateful for within a period of seven days. Many people around the world, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and non-members alike, accepted this invitation from the living Prophet and made use of the #GiveThanks hashtag as they shared things they were grateful for with the world through daily posts on various social media platforms. Joining in this exercise with my husband brought an incredible joy in our lives. We soon realized that as we give thanks for the joys and blessings we have in our lives, our perspectives about our worries and cares of the world changes. There is so much lightness and peace that fills our lives as we choose to give thanks instead of dwelling on the low sides of the year. Indeed this has been a difficult year, in all aspects, but also this has been the year in which we have so much to be grateful for.

I am grateful:

1. that I am alive

2. for the message of the Restored Gospel

3. for the lives of my parents

4. that all my siblings and their families are in good health

5. for the life of my husband

6. that we have a living Prophet

7. for the blessing of holy temples

8. for great friendships

9. for the ability to experience the beauty of sunrises and sunsets

10. for the blessing of gratitude which enables me to stay closer to my Heavenly Father and His plan for me.

If we do not acknowledge the blessings we have in our lives, we can easily become bitter creatures and turn into ungrateful beings always complaining and grumbling about what could have been. If we do acknowledge the blessings in our lives, even the most simple things as the ability to move our limbs or the blessing of looking into a child’s eye, our Heavenly Father looks down upon us with smiles and we receive more insights into our lives and the beautiful opportunity we have been given to travel this earth.

It is my hope that as this year draws to a close you may find the healing power of gratitude. The holy scriptures teach us about gratitude. In Philippians Chapter 4, Paul exhorts the Saints to “be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God”. The blessing or promise in thanksgiving or expressing gratitude as noted in this Chapter is that “the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”. Such a beautiful promise isn’t it?

Make a list of the blessings you have in your life, the people you are grateful for, the things that make your life easier, the joys and daily successes. Put this to test and record the positive feelings you will experience as you do so. I promise you that those good feelings will come and it will engulf you and you truly will feel peace and will be comforted no matter how hard your circumstances may be. I know that giving thanks is a divine principle and as we do so we open the heavens and that peace which surpasses all understanding will be ours.
